U.S. film director Constantin Werner will shoot a new film on Princess Libuše, a mythical ancestor of the Czech ruling Premyslid dynasty and the Czech people in general.

The shooting of the historical drama is to start in September, mainly in Czech locations such as Prague, the Adršpach Rocks in east Bohemia and Uherské Hradiště, south Moravia, the Aktualně.cz news server wrote on Thursday.

The American-Czech coproduction project is to be named The Crown of Vyšehrad, referring to the Prague Vyšehrad castle where Libuše is said to have lived. Libuše is best known for her prophesy on the foundation of Prague.

Werner gave the part of Libuše to U.S. actress Winter Ave Zoli, known from Tristan and Isolde (2006), while Libuše's husband Přemysl the Ploughman will be played by Hungarian Csaba Lucas.

"The scenario is based on drama plays by Franz Grillparzer and Clemens Brentano and on books of Alois Jirásek," said Vladimír Lhotak from the Starlite company, the Czech partner in the project.

Lhoták said the pagan times of Libuše, depicted in the historical stories of Czech classical author Jirásek (1851-1930), will be presented as a "world of ancient wisdom, personal freedom, living close to nature and open sensuality."
